If you are still using an analogue cassette-based system you may not be aware of how digital technology is revolutionising the process of recording and transcribing audio.
Manufacturers are beginning to focus more on digital systems and it is inevitable that, in time, analogue will be phased out altogether and digital will become the norm.
Digital technology holds many advantages over its analogue counterpart:
· It eliminates the concern over wear and tear of cassette tapes.
· It eliminates the need to trawl through a tape to find a particular point in the recording by offering instant search capabilities.
· It eliminates the concern over posting your original recording and hoping it reaches its destination quickly and intact, not to mention the costs incurred.
· It allows your original recording to remain with you, providing a permanent record and point of reference.
· It offers portability and flexibility so, wherever you are, as long as you have computer and internet access, you can transmit your file for transcription.
· It offers superior sound quality resulting in a quicker and more accurate transcription process.
At this point you may be concerned that making the switch to digital will be expensive but, in fact, the initial outlay is reasonable and the immediate benefits, as described above, will reduce your costs in the long run.
Of course, there is an abundance of digital recording equipment available and each system has its own strengths and weaknesses. My Resources page lists some suppliers to allow you to compare the various manufacturers' system features and prices. |
